Youth Leadership

Youth Leadership and Workforce Training Program

Mission

Our youth programs are designed to inspire leadership, foster personal growth, and prepare young individuals for a bright future. Through a combination of career workshops and workforce training, we empower youth to achieve their full potential.

Our Focus Areas:

  • Leadership Development: Cultivating the skills and confidence needed to lead in diverse settings.

  • Coaching and Mentorship: Personalized guidance to navigate challenges and build a path to success.

  • Workforce Readiness: Practical training and resources to excel in today’s job market.

  • College Readiness: Support for academic planning, applications, and transitioning to

    higher education.

What the Organization Does

Leadership Development
The program provides a space for students to explore their life goals, build self-awareness, and discuss challenges they may face, such as systemic barriers and racism. Through reflection and mentorship, students develop leadership qualities and moral purpose, inspired by historical figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
Workforce Readiness
Students learn essential skills to enter the workforce for the first time, such as communication, management, and workplace etiquette. They meet with mentors, professionals, and executives who share personal stories of perseverance and success, helping students connect their aspirations to real-world opportunities.
Mentorship and Guidance
Recognizing the lack of resources available to many young Somali Americans, the program provides consistent mentorship from older peers, educators, and professionals who serve as role models. Mentors like Omar Abdullahi and Jacfar Khalif offer guidance on staying focused, avoiding negative influences, and preparing for future challenges.
Community Building
The program fosters relationships between students and the broader community, encouraging meaningful connections with leaders, local executives, and elected officials. By building these networks, students gain access to resources and support systems that pave the way for their success.
Inspiration Through Real-Life Examples
Guest speakers like IT entrepreneur PG Narayanan, who began his American journey as an immigrant, share stories of resilience and achievement. These narratives resonate with students whose families have similar backgrounds, instilling hope and motivation to strive for their goals.
Overall Impact
The Youth Leadership and Workforce Training Program serves as a bridge between childhood and adulthood, helping students navigate critical decisions that will shape their lives. By emphasizing education, workforce skills, mentorship, and community engagement, the program empowers young people to pursue meaningful careers, contribute to society, and achieve their full potential.
